A huge ‘Thank you’ to the Rookery South Community Trust Fund and GrantScape!
Willow Grove are pleased to have received a grant from the Rookery South Community Trust Fund (managed by GrantScape) to purchase ten litter pickers and 14 external bins.
You will see our lovely new space buddy bins around the school grounds; these consist of general, food and mixed recycling waste bins. The litter pickers will provide the opportunity for older cohorts of pupils to be taken on planned walks in the community to reduce litter in our local environment, also fitting into many aspects of curriculum learning. These will also be made available to the local community to loan outside of school hours, free of charge.
This will support our ongoing efforts to maintain cleaner, safer, and more environmentally friendly public spaces and our school environment.
Why this is important:
- Promotes environmental responsibility: Providing litter pickers and bins encourages proper waste disposal and reinforces the importance of keeping our community clean. It fosters good habits among pupils, parents/carers and the wider public.
- Improves cleanliness and safety: More bins and regular litter picking help reduce the amount of waste in public and school areas. This leads to cleaner streets, parks, and playgrounds and minimises health risks associated with litter, such as vermin.
- Encourages community involvement: The availability of litter pickers empowers local residents, volunteers, and students to take part in community clean-up events, strengthening a sense of pride and ownership in their environment.
- Educational impact: By placing bins in schools and involving students in litter picking, we can integrate environmental awareness into education.
Also, a massive ‘Thank you’ to the PTA for supporting us with this grant 🙌
